Ring Doorbells Installation and setup
All three of Ring’s Video doorbells require an existing doorbell system for hardwiring installation.
If your original doorbell isn’t getting enough volts of power, you’ll need to upgrade your transformer.
The Ring Wired requires a transformer with between 10-24 volts amp output, while the Ring Pro requires between 16-24 volts amp output to set up.
But before you handle any electrical wiring, power down the circuit breaker to your home’s doorbell, or turn off the master switch.
The installation process is very simple as Ring provides step-by-step instruction. If you have any questions you can always contact Ring for professional help.
First thing first, check the Wi-Fi connection and speed test, download the Ring app, and create an account.
Now, you can turn off your doorbell circuit breaker, then test the doorbell to ensure that you turned off power to the correct circuit.
If the power is off, remove the existing doorbell faceplate and disconnect the wires from the doorbell.
Next, connect the exposed wiring to Ring Wired or Ring Pro, then tighten the screws to secure the wires in place.
Use the included screws to attach the doorbell baseplate to your door frame.
Once the Doorbell is secured, the Ring Pro comes with a Pro Power Kit that connects to the doorbell chime inside your house to regulate the power going to the doorbell.
All you have to do is remove the chime cover and loosen the front and trans terminal screws. You will then attach one wire from the Pro Power Kit to each terminal with the existing wires still connected.
Now, you can re-power the doorbell circuit breaker.

While both the Wired and Pro models offer a wide field of view, the Ring Pro has an advantage with a 160-degree field of view and 90-degree vertical viewing compared to the Ring Wired’s 155-degree field of view and 90-degree vertical viewing.
For extra features, homeowners can sign up for the Ring Protect Plus, which is a reasonably priced plan at $10/month or $100/year which offers video recording for all of your Ring devices.
If you want to take it a step further, you can sign up for Ring Protect Pro, which offers 24/7 professional monitoring as its most notable feature, plus more.
The latest model, the Ring Pro 2 is an upgraded version of the Ring Pro, which offers advanced video features such as 1536p HD+ Live Video, HDR, Live View, Color Night Vision, 3D Motion Detection with Bird’s Eye View, and 150° horizontal, 150° vertical.
Ring Pro Alexa Features
Ring Doorbells got smarter! In early 2021, Ring announced two new features called Alexa Greetings and Smart Responses.
Both features allow either Alexa to answer the door and take messages for you or let your Ring Doorbell Pro play preset responses and take messages from visitors.
Alexa Greetings makes your Ring Pro smarter. If you are unable to answer the door, Alexa will greet the visitor on your doorstep or help with assisting delivery packages by telling the driver where to leave the package.
Alexa Greeting gives you access to Delivery Assistance. This feature allows you to specify a location around your home to leave the package. Alexa will inform delivery people when they arrive.
This is a great solution due to the rise in stolen packages. But unfortunately, it’s only available for Ring Pro ( 2017 or later) and Ring Pro 2.
Smart Responses is similar to voice messages (answering machines) but just a little advance with Quick Replies. The good news this feature is available for most Ring Doorbells. Click support to learn more.
With Smart Responses, Ring gives you several default Quick Reply Messages you can choose from which includes holiday-themed Quick Replies and ringtones.
With Ring doorbells, you can add a festive touch to your home for holidays and special occasions. When a guest arrives and rings the bell, you have the option to choose a holiday reply message that greets your guest with spooky Halloween sounds, cheerful tunes like “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells,” or even “Oh Hanukkah” and more.
Now, you can make your guests feel welcome and add some holiday cheer with your Ring doorbells.
Also, both features give you Response Time, which gives you options on how long should Alexa wait for you to answer before speaking to your visitor.
Please note, to access Alexa Greetings and review messages left by visitors in video history, you will have to subscribe to the Ring Protect Plan.
All Pro users can view visitors’ messages in real-time in Live View

Final Note
All-in-all the Doorbells are great, but in my opinion, this comes down to budget.
If you are on a budget and don’t mind not having the extra tech features, your best bet is the Ring Wired.
But If you want wider-view angles, extra faceplates, and more advanced tech features, and don’t mind shelling out an additional $100 to $200, go with the Ring Pro or Ring Pro 2.
