As the summer begins to end and the new school semester begins, we have been preparing our kids for the next grade level.

But I recently realized when my oldest son was having some difficulties with spelling words, he would ask Google.

The spelling was correct but it was saying the words really fast. It made me think if there is a way to make Google home spell words slower?

To give you a quick answer, absolutely and It’s very simple. To make Google Home (Google Assistant) spell the word slower just say, “Hey Google, say that again slower.” which it will repeat the word much slowly so you can understand. This will actually work with any Google smart device.

What is Google Home (Google Assistant)?

In case you didn’t already know, Google Home is a voice-activated connected smart speaker that can play music, control your smart devices, add things to your to-do list and do a bunch of web search all through your voice.

How to Voice Activate Google Home?

Google Home is an A.I. assistant, powered by the Google search engine. It’s controlled by using voice commands such as asking to spell a word or play fun games. There’s no on/off button. It’s always on when it’s plugged in.

Here are some examples:

You can either say, “Hey, Google” or “Ok, Google” and simply ask Google,

  • “How to spell [Word or words]?”
  • “What is the definition of [word or words]?”
  • Synonyms for [say the word].”

Can I Change the Speed In Google Home Setting to Spell Words Much Slower?

At the time of this article, no. The only option is to ask google home (Google Assistant) to repeat the word slower. If there is enough demand for this feature may be Google will release an update in the near future.

Other Useful Google Assistant Voice Commands for the Family

  • Dictionary – definitions and origins of different words.
  • Mr. Math – is the easiest way for the whole family to practice addition and subtraction facts from 0 to 10.

Final Note

After my son realized how to control the speed of Google Home, he was able to improve his, spelling, speech and learning new words.
