Over the course of last year, I have reviewed several smart plugs.
So just recently Gosund asked me to take a look at their Smart plug, I said: “Why not!?”
Gosund seems to have their high points, due to what I’ve seen so far, as the smart plugs get the job done. So, let’s dig into this smart plug and find out exactly why it’s the number #1 best seller on Amazon.
Who is Gosund?
The company was founded in 2007 and is IOS certified which means it meets IOS standards, by demonstrating that the product or service meets the expectations of their customers.
Gosund specialized in IOT AI, smart home product design, production and sales having branches in the United States & Hong Kong.
What makes Gosund Smart Plug Different?
First, it’s really affordable, especially compared to many of its competitors. At its minimum price entry point, it allows anyone to start automating their crib. Once you buy one and see it’s working, you become hooked and want to keep buying more.
The app, Smart Life, has a clean interface, making it very easy to use.
Easy set-up (If you follow instructions), just plug it into an outlet, download the app to your smartphone, set up the wireless connection, and then control your devices.
When I first was setting-up the Gosund smart Plug, there were some connecting issues. I had to retry twice as it wasn’t picking up the device.
After reading the instructions again on the app, I realized my Wi-Fi (Only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network) router, mobile phone, and the Gosund smart plug wasn’t close enough to connect. Once I changed the position of the smart plug, my smartphone, and retry set-up, the device was found.

Gosund Smart Plug Features
Gosund has created a smart outlet plug-in adapter for people who want to add remote control and automation to their existing lamps, fans, or other electrical devices without breaking the bank.
Gosund smart plug gives you full integration with your smartphone, so you can control it anywhere with Wi-Fi enabled remote control, making your life easier and smarter. And it takes it a step further by having features such as,
- Set timer
- Share with family members
- Create a schedule
- Compatible with IFTTT
All of this in a budget smart plug which blows my mind.
The Gosund smart plug also syncs up with Amazon Alexa and Google Home devices. With voice integration, you don’t have to bring up the app on your phone to switch the devices on and off, you can just use the voice commands and say things like…
“Hey Google, turn of bedroom lamp.”
Or
“Alexa, turn off night lamp.”
WeMo Mini Smart Plug Vs Gosung Smart Plug
To be honest both smart plugs have its strong and weak points. But as some of you may know, I am a huge fan of WeMo Mini smart plugs.
WeMo
Why? It’s well small block design, which allows you to fit two WeMo Minis into adjacent outlets.
The WeMo Mini smart plug offers some great features such as power monitoring, away modes or Apple HomeKit compatibility.
But, the cons for WeMo, can be its usability, it crashes, and it’s difficult to set-up as some users have complained from top critical reviews.
Gosund
After spending several hours with Gosung Smart plug, it has been working very well but for my wife Melissa, there seems to be a problem when using voice commands. So, it’s a hit or miss regarding voice control.
The smart plug is not designed to fit more than one into the adjacent outlet.
Also, the Gosund Smart Plug doesn’t include more advanced features such as power monitoring, away modes and it’s not compatible with Apple Siri or HomeKit.
So, what can you expect from this budget smart plug? It still delivers basic smart task and also works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
Verdict
In my opinion, both are great smart plugs but WeMo is still the best when it comes to an overall package. WeMo is compatibility with IFTTT, Google Assistant, Siri, Apple HomeKit and Amazon’s Alexa. Making it one of the most well-connected smart plugs you can buy but at a premium price.
Basic Smart Plug with Powerful Features
While Gosund smart plug delivers the same basic features with an entry price less than $10, that might be all you need.
For example, the one features we would use is create a schedule to turn the lights on at sunrise and turn off, at sunset which would also give an impression you are home when traveling.
If you are a Google Home or Amazon Alexa user, you can simply use commands to shut the lights on and off.
And last, the ability to remote control things outside of your home which might be the most powerful feature of all. That ability makes your home safer, allows you to save time and most importantly, allows you to save money.
Final Thoughts
Once I have a chance to really test this out over the course of the next few months, I’ll be able to add more to this review.
From what I have seen thus far it’s a rather impressive smart plug device that will add value to your smart home and is definitely worth trying out.
Especially at its low price point than some of the other smart plugs that we’ve seen in the past. It’s definitely worth trying. If you are interested in buying one you can find the latest price on Amazon.
