Why did I Buy Google Home Chromecast?

To be honest, we are not new to using smart devices for our televisions. We actually use Roku and Apple TV for entertainment. We’ve cut the cord over a year ago and haven’t looked back since.
When I purchased Google Chromecast, it was mainly for voice activation purposes, nothing more. Since the goal was to have everything controlled by voice or automation I decided to connect a Chromecast to our television.

The first thing I can say about this product is this is the cheapest smart streaming device I paid for compared to Roku and  Apple TV click links to view prices at Target. I only paid $24.99 vs $34.99 regular price due to the holiday season.
Not only was Google Chromecast cheap, but set-up was also very easy and the best part it can be used for the vast majority of services and so much more. With that being said it’s pretty hard not to recommend a product that is cheap, plus easy to set-up.
Besides just plugging in your Chromecast to your HDMI port and plugging the USB into your power port TV, there are you initial steps-you have to take.  Let’s talk about the simple set up steps :

What is Google Chromecast?

Chromecast is a small media streaming device that you connect to your HDMI port on your Television monitor. Google Chromecast uses the screen sharing technology to show Internet content, as well as local content from devices running thru Android or iOS.

What apps work with Google Chromecast?

Here are a few apps that will work with Chromecast, Google Play Music, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, HBO NOW, CBS, and much more.

So why would you buy a Google Chromecast?

Since having streaming devices such as Apple TV and Roku, excluding Amazon Fire Stick, I can say I personally preferred Apple TV since most of our device are in the Apple ecosystem. The truth with most of these devices is that they are all good but if you cater more towards a certain operating system those devices will operate better.
For example, if you are a Google user and most of your devices cater towards Android (Google Home, Android phones, tablets, watch), you might want to stick with the Google ecosystem. The same with Amazon Fire Stick, if you are a person who buys mostly on Amazon, it only makes sense to buy Google Chromecast.

Google Chromecast is a small device that uses your phone most of the time, completely different from my other two streaming devices. For example, when watching Netflix on Google Chromecast you are actually using your phone as a remote and a streaming device. You are playing Netflix using your phone.
It could be an advantage as it could be simpler for you but it could also be at a disadvantage as you are using your phone for a lot of streaming and I typically don’t like using my phone for everything. In my opinion, that could be a very big failure for a lot of users who purchased the Google Chromecast because you are using your phone for the majority of the applications.
It could be an advantage as it could be simpler for you but it could also be at a disadvantage as you are using your phone for a lot of streaming devices and I typically don’t like using my phone for everything.
The advantage Chromecast does have is screen miring which it does very well. You can also do this on Apple TV and Roku but I believe Google Chromecast does it the best. If you want to watch YouTube videos and you want to stream it straight from your phone it gets an A+.
You might have some friends or family over and you would like to show them something on YouTube from your phone, all you have to do is stream the content to your Chromecast and now everyone can enjoy what you are watching.
That really sums it up, when it comes to the Google Chromecast, other than the screen miring other it not my favorite-device as I only have it to connect to my Google Home.

Does Google Chromecast support 4K?

Yes. You can only watch 4K content through Google Chromecast Ultra. For a more affordable picture quality device like a 1080p, you can purchase for $35.00 compared to Chromecast Ultra at a steeping price tag of $75.00.

My Verdict

Honestly, the Google Chromecast is a great entry-level streaming device with a low price for your TV. Plus it’s much cooler looking than the original Chromecast one. Using a Chromecast is, incredibly simple and easy to use.
Chromecast’s casting ability is not just for video but can also support apps that can cast into your TV. While there is no limit in regards to what you could cast, for the most part, you’ll just be sending video, audio, and photos to this streaming device.
If you are looking for a device at a low bargain price, you can control through Google home, display 1080p or better and cast from your phone plus easy set-up then the Google Chromecast is just for you.
