The other day my Fire TV Cube was flashing yellow and I had no idea why. Of course, as a smart home blogger, I had to look into why was this happening. Here is what I discovered and what you can do to fix it.
A flashing or swinging yellow light on your Fire TV Cube means that you have no Internet connection or your Echo device is offline.
Once you’re able to get your Fire TV Cube working normally, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of content streaming once again.
Why is my Fire TV Cube Flashing Yellow?
Now, I’m not a rocket scientist, but I can tell you that if your Cube is flashing or swinging a yellow light it’s most likely due to a poor Wi-Fi connection.
However, if we are looking for other reasons for the swinging yellow light beyond those mentioned, there are several possible causes for this flashing or swinging light.
- You have a notification from Amazon that your order has been delivered. Just say “Alexa, read my notifications”. She will respond and the yellow light will go away.
- There’s a reminder you missed.
- You have no internet. Since Alexa is a cloud service, he/she needs to be connected to the internet.
- Your device is booting up. When you first turn on the Fire TV Cube, it may flash yellow briefly as it boots up. This is normal and should only last a few seconds.
- Your device is in setup mode. If you are setting up your Fire TV Cube for the first time, it may flash yellow to indicate that it is in setup mode.
What Steps Can I Take to Troubleshoot?
- Check your internet connection and see if your phone or computer is connected. If not, restart your router.
- If you’re using an Ethernet cable which you can find the Adapter on Amazon, unplug it and plug it back in.
- If your Fire TV cube is still showing yellow light, restart your device.
- Unplug it for three seconds then power up and see how it goes.
- Last, check for Fire TV Cube updates.
How to Stop Fire TV Cube from Flashing Yellow for Notifications, Recommendations & Deals?
To disable Notifications, Recommendations & Deals, open up the Alexa app.
Go to Menu (select the three-line icon on the bottom right corner) Tap > Settings (More).
Scroll down and tap the Notifications option > Tap Amazon Shopping.
Scroll down to Recommendations & Deals > Tap to disabled.
Now you should not receive any more Recommendations & Deals.

As I surf the web to find out what the Fire TV Cube lights mean, there seems to be no clear answer from Amazon.
This same question was also coming up repeatedly on sites like Reddit or Amazonforums.com.
If you have an Echo device, you might notice that they display the same lights when there is a technical issue or some type of notification.
