The Ultimate Ears Blast – produces a clear sound that’s insanely powerful for its size. It also produces a deep, rich bass texture that stays true to the music.

To understand how the waterproof Ultimate Ears speakers work, you must understand its IP rating.

The IP stands for “Ingress Protection” and the two digits indicate the level of protection a product has from liquid intrusion in certain volumes, pressures, or temperature.

The “6” indicates the sensor is completely protected against solid objects such as dust from entering the sensor. The IP ratings for solids, scale from 1 to 6.

The Ultimate Blast and MEGABLAST is protected against all solids from dust, sand, and mud.

The second digit in the IP rating is the device’s resistance to liquids. Protection against liquids is rated from 0 to 8.

The Ultimate Ears Blast and MEGABLAST moisture protection rating is a 7, which means its sensor can be completely submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes before the moisture penetrates the housing.

For the speakers to receive an IP rating, they must be tested. This means both devices were submerged in water, and no liquid entered the speakers or led to any malfunctioning.
