Amazon Alexa has continued to grow with new hardware hosts, skills kit, and dozens more from third parties‘ speakers such as The Ultimate Ears Blast and MEGABLAST.
Amazon has just been dominating and continues to dominate with its expansion around the globe.
Amazon Alexa currently has surpassed over 100,000 skills that can be voice-activated through Alexa or any third-party Alexa enabled devices.
Alexa is also on several Echo devices such as the all-new 4th Gen Echo Dot, the 3rd Gen Echo Show 10, and much more. Eventually, the goal for Amazon is to have its virtual assistants be integrated into all electronic devices, kinda scary, right?
With smart devices everywhere, that’s the kind of world we live in today, IoT (Internet of Things).
Alexa is popping up in new places all the time and if you want to be ahead of the class here are some of the best skills to enable on your Alexa.
1. Audible
Audibles allow you to access your audiobooks by simply saying, “Alexa, read my books” to pick-up your the most recent audible you were listening to. You can also pause, forward, resume, or restart with just a command. Here are a few commands below.
“Alexa, read my book”
“Alexa, read [Elon Musk]”
“Alexa, read [AI Superpowers] from Audible”
“Alexa, pause”
“Alexa, resume”
“Alexa, play”
“Alexa, go back”
“Alexa, go forward”
“Alexa, next chapter”
“Alexa, previous chapter”
“Alexa, go to chapter number [7]”
“Alexa, go to the last chapter”
“Alexa, restart”
“Alexa, what are my books?”
“Alexa, what’s in my Audible library?”
2 AnyPod
I don’t know about you but I am obsessed with podcasts. I listen to podcasts every morning during my commute to work using Stitcher. This is probably the easiest way to listen to your favorite shows. In order to do this, you must first link your Stitcher account, then you will have access to your podcast playlists and be able to play your favorite podcast shows.
3. 1-Minute Mindfulness
If you are a beginner to mediation this is a great skill to help you recharge and reenergize for 1-minute long. Step back, take a break from your busy workday and begin your 1-Minute Mindfulness meditation.
4. Tracking Outfits
Do you forget what you wear last week and wish you were able to keep track of your outfits? Well, guess what, you can use your Echo Look to track that. Look to have your Echo track what you wear over time. Just take a photo and Alexa can capture a head-to-toe look.
5. Blueprint
You can create your own personal skills. If I want Alexa to say to my boys, when I say, Alexa, who is the greatest dad in the world? Alexa will respond, It’s Rodney, Dad to Kyle, Camryn, and Ayden. Now, they will never argue with Alexa.

iRobot Home
If you have a Roomba Vacuum, you can ask Alexa to begin cleaning while you sit and watch your favorite Netflix shows. Use simple commands to have Alexa start, stop, and pause cleaning jobs.
7. Chop Chop
If you like me, not very skilled in the kitchen, and may need some basic tutorials, Chop Chop is the right skill for you. It’s a fun tool in which Echo gives you step-by-step instructions that will have you slicing and dicing in no time.
8. Word of The Day Flash Briefing
Get your latest morning news briefing while getting ready for work or preparing breakfast for the family. Just ask, Alexa, read me the news and she will let you know what’s going on. You can even customize your flash briefing by installing the Guardian skill and have Alexa read full articles.
9. TED Talks
Are you looking for OnDemand inspiration? Download the TED talk Alexa Skill. She will play the most recent TED talk or you can find one, based on your command. You can search by, saying the words: inspiring, funny, speaker name, theme, and so on. Now, you’ll always have access to the most powerful speakers in the world at all the time.
10. Alexa Announcements
Instead of yelling across the house to let the kids know it’s dinner time, you can now just say, Alexa, announce that dinner is ready. And watch them run to the dinner table. Alexa works like an intercom but only as a one-way intercom.
11 Drop In
If I’m traveling a long distance and would like to see Melissa and the kids. I can ask Alexa to drop in on my wife using Echo Show 8.
If enabled, you can just drop and communicate with others using your Alexa-enabled device, plus it’s FREE!
This service is only available in the US, Canada, and Mexico (emergency numbers like 911 are not supported).
Just keep in mind, to turn it off (Microphone and audio), if not using it, due to privacy concerns.
